The?couple stopped by Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, Tuesday, where they were welcomed by the institution's president, Marc Tessier-Lavigne,?Buckingham Palace confirmed to USA TODAY on Thursday.

While there, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan met with professors and academics, while working to?"develop and build their new charitable organisation,"??royal officials added.?

Following their historic announcement that they'd be stepping back from their royal duties, the couple shared they'd be splitting their time between the U.K. and Canada and plan to launch a "new charitable entity."

Their appearance at Stanford?comes just a week after the?couple was spotted at an exclusive JP Morgan?event?in what marked their first joint public appearance in the U.S.?since news broke of their modified roles on Jan. 8.

Prince Harry delivered a speech at the event, held at?1 Hotel in Miami’s South Beach, Buckingham Palace confirmed.?JP Morgan declined to comment on the couple's involvement.?

The JP Morgan event wasn't their first speaking engagement since they broke the news.

In a January speech,?Prince Harry?expressed "great sadness" over his and Duchess Meghan's decision to step back from their royal duties.?

Speaking at a charity event?for Sentebale,?the charity he co-founded in 2006 to honor Princess Diana's support for those affected by HIV and AIDS,?Harry, 35, addressed the elephant in the room: He told attendees he wanted them to "hear the truth from me, as much as I can share."

He and Meghan wanted to continue serving "the queen, the commonwealth and my military associations, but without public?funding. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible."

"The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly," Prince Harry said. "It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven't always gone at it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option. What I want to make clear is we're not walking away. And we certainly aren't walking away from you."

As part of the deal, the?Duke and Duchess of Sussex will?stop using?their HRH titles (His Royal Highness, Her Royal Highness) as they are "no longer working members of the Royal Family," Buckingham Palace?announced.
